Hong Kong Style Dim Sum

What would you take for breakfast in the early morning? Or tea-time in the late evening?

Hmmm....DIM SUM I suppose!

It is convenient to drop by any nearest coffee shop to have a 'bao', 'chicken glutinous rice' or 'meat dumplings'. These are more common dim sum where you can find at anyplace.

Dim Sum is usually served with tea. It is now a staple of Chinese dining culture, especially in Hong Kong.

Traditional dim sum includes various types of steamed buns such as cha siu bau, dumplings and rice noodle rolls (cheong fun), which contain a range of ingredients, including chicken, pork, prawns and vegetarian options.

Many dim sum restaurants also offer plates of steamed green vegetables, roasted meats, congee porridge and other soups. Dessert dim sum is also available and many places offer the customary egg tart.

Dim sum can be cooked by steaming and frying, among other methods. The serving sizes are usually small and normally served as three or four pieces in one dish.

p/s: Love this song so so much!! ^^

~Ais Kacang Puppy Love~初恋红豆冰~

Whats make you think of Ais Kacang? First Love? Puppy Love?

For me, it makes me think of a recent movie--'AIS KACANG PUPPY LOVE', directed by Aniu, a well-known local acter and singer, who now taken the duty as the director of this film.

This was a long awaited movie. One that was supposed to be release back in September 2009, this is one production which Aniu 阿牛,陈庆祥 put all his heart, sweat and money in it.

A local production that gathers a bunch of top Malaysian Chinese Artist together and with that being said, it’s a very very good film!

The story was set in early 80s which is based largely on Aniu's childhood experiences where he grew up in Pulau Penang. In attempt to revive Malaysian Chinese Movie industry, he placed quite a lot of effort into this movie.

The movie evolves largely around the both of them featuring conflicts of love and relationships between family and friends.

This film displayed a heart warming story that surrounds the blooming of the few puppy love with the various characters in the village.

Filled with pretty much of funny scenes in between, this movie will have you laughing at times.

Definitely a film which catch my heart, a very impressive movie made locally by Malaysian. It was a proud thing for Malaysia.

还记得红豆冰的味道吗?
在赤道国家炎热的下午,吃进口里的红豆冰,
冰涼清甜,甚至把嘴巴冻得有点疼了,
但是來不及再继续感受,它却已融化了;

还记得初恋的滋味吗?
甜蜜却又苦涩,把心刺疼了,像红豆冰一样,
还來不及再感受,就已经融化了,
只能在记忆里留下那味道和深刻的刺痛。

SCONE~~New Trend of Bread in This Season

Have you heard of SCONE?

Scone is a small British quick bread of Scottish origin. Scones are slowly gaining popularity nowadays. It is usually made of wheat, barley or oatmeal, with baking powder as a leavening agent.

Scone is normally round and thick. It is easy to make at home. It can include raisins, chocolate chips, or dates.

This is the basic recipe of making Scone:

Ingredients

  • 3 cups self-raising flour

  • 80g butter, cubed
  • 1 to 1 1/4 cups milk
  • jam and whipped cream, to serve

Methods

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C. Lightly dust a flat baking tray with plain flour.
  2. Sift self-raising flour into a large bowl.
  3. Using your fingertips, rub butter into flour until mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  4. Make a well in the centre.

  5. Add 1 cup of milk.

  6. Mix with a flat-bladed knife until mixture forms a soft dough, adding more milk if required.

  7. Turn onto a lightly floured surface.

  8. Knead gently until smooth (don't knead dough too much or scones will be tough).

  9. Pat dough into a 2cm-thick round. Using a 5cm (diameter) round cutter, cut out 12 rounds.

  10. Press dough together and cut out remaining 4 rounds.

  11. Place scones onto prepared baking tray, 1cm apart.

  12. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden and well risen.

  13. Transfer to a wire rack. Serve warm with jam and cream.

See...Its easy as ABC right? Haha...Hope you enjoy the wonders of making your own scones!

< Chocolate Lover >

Are you a Chocolate Lover?

Are you addicted to Chocolate?

YES....

I Am...I Am...^^

Chocolate has many brands. Hershey is famous for their Hershey bar, Hershey's kisses and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Mars is most famous for its eponymous Mars Bar, as well as other confectionery such as Milky Way, M&M's, Twix, Skittles and Snickers. Cadbury is well known for its Dairy Milk range. Nestlé production include Smarties and Kit Kat.

Chocolate is divided into milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate. I prefer dark chocolate because it is less sweet and has a more bitter taste. Milk chocolate has more milky taste and slightly sweeter. White chocolate has a unique flavour.

Do You Know?

Chocolate popularity has been adapted in books and films. In 1964, Roald Dahl published a children's novel titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
The novel centers around a poor boy named Charlie Bucket who takes a tour through the greatest chocolate factory in the world, owned by Willy Wonka.

Two film adaptations of the novel were produced. The first was Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory at 1971.

At 2005, a second film adaptation was produced, titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The film was very well received.

I like the movie very much. It has delivered moral values to people.

If you haven't watch it before, I highly recommended this movie.

Attached a trailer of the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005).

Tim Burton was the director of this film, Johnny Depp was the main acter.

This movie is great, fantastic, and worth to watch it!

~Recipe of Carrot Cake~

Carrot Cake never goes out of style. One bite will tell you why. This rich and moist spice cake, full of grated carrot and toasted nuts, has great flavor, especially when covered with a cream cheese frosting. The interesting part is that while those pretty orange flecks of grated carrot give the cake color and texture, along with sweetness and moisture, its flavor is almost indistinguishable.

Carrot Cake Making:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C) and place rack in center of oven. Butter or spray two - 9 x 2 inch (23 x 5 cm) cake pans and line the bottoms of the pans with a circle of parchment paper.

  • Toast the pecans or walnuts for about 8 minutes or until lightly browned and fragrant. Let cool and then chop coarsely.

  • Peel and finely grate the carrots. Set aside.

  • In a separate bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.

  • In bowl of electric mixer (or with a hand mixer), beat the eggs until frothy (about 1 minute).

  • Gradually add the sugar and beat until the batter is thick and light colored (about 3 - 4 minutes).

  • Add the oil in a steady stream and then beat in the vanilla extract. Add the flour mixture and beat just until incorporated. With a large rubber spatula fold in the grated carrots and chopped nuts.

  • Evenly divide the batter between the two prepared pans and bake 25 to 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  • Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack. After about 5 -10 minutes invert the cakes onto the wire rack, remove the pans and parchment paper, and then cool completely before frosting.

  • To assemble: place one cake layer, top side down, onto your serving plate. Spread with about one third of the frosting. Gently place the other cake, top of cake facing down, onto the frosting, and spread the rest of the frosting over the top and sides of the cake.

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • In bowl of electric mixer, beat the cream cheese and butter, on low speed, just until blended with no lumps.

  • Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar and beat, on low speed, until fully incorporated and smooth. Beat in the vanilla extract, and lemon zest.

Have A Nice Morning~~Breakfast at McD

My friends and I are loyal fans of McD's Breakfast. We often go there for breakfast before we go for classes. McD's Breakfast is tasty and unbelievable affordable when it has promotion for Weekday Breakfast Special starts from RM4.

A set of Sausage McMuffin with Egg + coffee/tea(M) cost only RM4.50. A set of Egg McMuffin with Chicken Roll+ coffee/tea(M) also cost RM4.50. Egg McMuffin is my friends FAVOURITE! She will definitely order for two in a morning for her breakfast. If not, she will not be delighted. Haha...^^

The muffins used are based on English traditional method. Freshly toasted muffins have a crisp exterior with a tantalizing fluffy inside which goes well with butter, jam, cheese, sausages and even eggs. This makes the breakfast at McD very unique and special. A cup of steaming, freshly brewed coffee or tea is available for free refills.

Chicken sausages at McD are healthy because they are not deep-fried but grilled with Southern style seasoning. The mouth-watering flavour is very tempting. Hash browns made from potatoes have a crisp crust and soft distinct pieces of potato inside. It has a perfect golden colour. That is why it become popular among prople.

As for me, my favourite is Hotcakes! A set of 2 pcs Hotcakes +coffee/tea(M) cost me RM4.00. Served with rich honey syrup poured over a little margarine, which slowly seep into the warm cakes. EAT FRESH!

~Roti Canai, Tosai & Chapati~Local Malaysian Indian Cuisine~

Mamak stalls had always been a favourite of mine when it comes to Indian food. Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, Indian food is nice to eat and affordable.

Roti canai or known as roti prata is easily found in Malaysia. It composed of dough containing fat (ghee), egg, flour and water. It is flat, fluffy on the inside but crispy and flaky on the outside. It is served with dhal or curry. The common roti found is Roti Telur, Roti Bawang, Roti Tisu, Roti Sardin, etc.

The dosa or tosai is a crepe made from rice and black lentils. It is served by folded in half or rolled as in a wrap, but in both cases it is cooked on a single side. Alternatively, it may be flipped to cook on the other side and then served. Dosas are typically served with a side dish such as sambar (dhal), coconut chutney or curry. Masala dosa which is a dosa stuffed with spiced potatoes is consider the most famous among all dosas.

Chapati is made from wheat flour, 'atta', and water. It is kneaded into flat unleavened dough. Some salt or oil may be added to the dough and the top of it is slathered with butter or ghee. You may think capatis are plain boring. Yes if you eat it plain... Chapati is normally served with a few types of side dish with it. Curry, dhal, and kheema - egg, vegetarian, of meaty kheema. The taste is just so wonderful! Thus, chapati is my favourite among all Indian breads.

I have always find the Indian breads to be very soft and fresh...That is why I like it so much!

So does all this makes you hungry now?? And feel like go for Indian today?? Haha...^^

Temptation of THAI Food~~TOM YAM

Thai Tom Yam Fried Rice
Hmmm...Do you like hot and spicy food? If you are a spice lover like me, you will sure enjoy the tastiness of Thai-style Tom Yam.

Tom yam originated from Thailand. Tom yam is commonly used to make soups. We can easily find Tom Yam food at any stalls all around Malaysia. It is a very common food nowadays.

Thai Tom Yam Seafood
Tom Yam can cooked with noodles, vegetables, seafood, meats, and even used to fried rice. It has a distinct hot and sour flavors, some fragrant herbs are used such as lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, fish sauce, lime juice and chili peppers. The soup is often topped with chopped coriander leaves.

Tom yum is usually made with prawns (Tom Yam Goong), chicken (Tom Yam Gai), fish (Tom Yam Pla), or mixed seafood (Tom Yam Po Taek).
Now we can easily make Tom Yam food by our own. We just need to buy commercial tom yam paste from any supermarkets. This paste is made by crushing all the herb ingredients and stir-frying in oil. Then, we can cook our Tom Yam by using the ready-made paste.

I didn't lie......It really taste wonderful!!! Slurrppp~~~XD

JAPAN popular dish~~SUSHI

Sushi is nowadays quite famous food in Malaysia. We got Sushi King, YO! Sushi, Sushi Zanmai, Sakae Sushi, and lots more Japanese restaurant all over Malaysia.

What is sushi? Vinegar-seasoned Japanese rice is the main ingredient of sushi. Raw fish (Shashimi) is among the most popular ingredient used in making sushi. There are many kinds of sushi, such as Nigiri, Gunkan, Maki, Temaki. Various other ingredients can be combined in sushi which include cooked fish, shellfish, crabstick, omelette, fish roe, fresh vegetables, etc.

Sushi is not only tasty, it is also nutritious and healthy. Sushi is low in fat. The fish in sushi provides protein. Vegetables are a great source of vitamins. Seaweed (nori) is rich in iodine. And rice provides complex carbohydrates.

There are places called kaiten, where the sushi plates circle around the eating area on a conveyor belt. I prefer to sit around kaiten and wait for my favourite sushi to reach me and then I will grab the plates from the moving belt. Sometimes I will make order if my favourite is not moving on the belt. The types or colors of plate which sushi pieces are on indicate prices of sushi. Normally, I will avoid picking up expensive sushi, just to save money. =)

Green tea or Ocha is the best drink with sushi. Nitsume is sweet sauce used for dipping sushi. Soy sauce has more salty taste. Wasabi which has extremely strong flavour and spicy hot is suitable in complimenting sushi, especially raw fish sushi.

So, do you feel like grabbing a sushi now?

KOREAN Cuisine~~Bibimbap

Jeonju Bibimbap Dolsot Bibimbap

I love korean dishes very much. I went Korean restaurant especially for Bibimbap, which is a very popular Korean dish. Bap is a Korean word for rice and bi bim means to stir or mix together. Bibimbap literally means "mixed rice."

In Korea, they serve Bibimbap as a great winter dish. It's easy to make and not as spicy as most Korean food. It has slightly sweet taste which is very mouth-watering to me.

Bibimbap has many variety. Most common is Dolsot Bibimbap and Jeonju Bibimbap. Dolsot Bibimbap serves in a sizzling-hot stone bowl, while Jeunjo Bibimbap serves in a metal bowl. The dolsot makes the rice crispy and chewy.

Bibimbap consists of steam rice, topped with assorted fresh vegetables and then marinated along with a small amount of meat. Fainally, it is topped with a half baked egg added into the bowl. A paste called 'gochujang' is mixed together while stirring all ingredients together thoroughly before eating.

If you have never tried bibimbap, you’ve been missing out one of the tastiest dishes in Korean cuisine. Although it is a quite simple dish, but in reality the combination of ingredients used to make this dish turn out to be something surprising, wonderful and remarkably healthy.

And it’ll all taste good– that much I can promise you.
